Accused of violating the Bio-Bubble Protocols; Three Sri Lankan Players Sent Home

Sri Lankan Three Players Sent Home Over Bubble Breach In England

Sri Lanka suspended three players, including vice-captain Kusal Mendis, and removed them from the upcoming One-day international series in England over a breach of their coronavirus bio-secure bubble protocols.

Kusal and Niroshan Dickwella were seen smoking in the streets of ‘Chester-le-Street’, ahead of first One-day international at the Riverside Ground.

In a second video on social media, opening batsman Danushka Gunathilaka can be seen enjoying with the two, violating the Covid protocols in England.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said the three players were suspended from all forms of the game until an inquiry was completed.

The board said, “This decision was taken following a preliminary inquiry conducted over a video posted on social media in which the said three players can be seen outside their designated hotel,”

A cricket board source told that not a single player was supposed to go out of their hotel.

The source said, “The three players have been asked to return home today,”

He added, “They can no longer return to the bubble because that could be a risk for other players.”

England pacer Mark Wood admitted the infringement and stated that top-notch players must be careful and avoid jeopardizing their game.

Wood said, “It’s disappointing from them, and they’re pretty good players as well, unfortunately.

“But we are going to have to make sure we are doubly on it now because little slips like this can put the whole thing in jeopardy,”

He added, “We were told that in Durham the Covid levels are particularly high, so we have to back off a little bit. We weren’t allowed in restaurants, coffee shops, or anything like that.

“Not even sitting outside or anything like that. So we stripped it right back.

“I don’t know what their team measures are, what they have been told. I don’t know if theirs is laxer than ours — every team is different — but we have taken this very seriously and appointed a Covid security officer who tells us what we can and can’t do.”

“At times, it is hard for some of the lads because they want to get out and do things but in a hotspot like Durham we have to be a little bit more rigid.”

Sri Lanka is due to play three ODI matches against England after being swept 3-0 by the hosts in preceding the Twenty20 International series that finished on Saturday, where England cruising to a thumping 89-runs victory in Southampton.

Disgruntled fans launched a drive to shun the team on social media after they slumped to a dismal fifth consecutive Twenty20 series defeat.

According to the reports, the hashtag #unfollowcricketers began to trend on Facebook as thousands of fans boycotted the social media pages of Kusal and Danushka.

Fans also shared memes asking each other not to watch the national team game.

There was no immediate reaction from any of the senior players, but some observers posted that the performance in England was one of the team’s worst, in the three decades.

Test Cricket: England Vs India Heather 95 Runs Tourists Take Late Wickets

England Vs India: Heather Hits 95 Runs But Tourists Take Late Wickets

England suffered a late collapse against India after a sterling 95 runs from captain Heather Knight on a fluctuating first day of the one-off Test Cricket in Bristol.

England slipped from 230-2 to 251-6, losing four wickets for 21 runs on a turning pitch before reaching 269-6 at the close.

Heather, in her 100th match as England captain, was distraught to fall five runs short of a century after watching Nat Sciver and Amy Jones be dismissed in quick succession by a rejuvenated India.

India acquitted themselves well in their first Test for six years, with off-spinner Sneh Rana taking 3-77 and Deepti Sharma 2-50.

After the criticism of the Test being played on a used pitch, the opening day had a bit of everything – runs for the batters and turns later in the day for the India spinners.

Tammy Beamount’s 66 and a positive 35 from Lauren Winfield-Hill helped England make a strong start, but India fought hard to check their progress.

Though, with a mixed forecast for the remaining three days, England will know they need to make the best use of a pitch that will only get worse.

India hit back on absorbing day

England played positive cricket, with the batters jumping on poor deliveries and maintaining the rhythm of the match.

However, it is to India’s credit that after a chastening afternoon session, which saw a weary fielding unit trudge off the field, they regrouped, making inroads almost immediately after tea.

Sciver and Heather, England’s most consistent all-format players, shared a 90-run stand before Sciver was trapped lbw by a full delivery from Sharma.

Wicketkeeper Jones, who has impressed in domestic cricket this summer, was also pinned lbw by Rana before Heather, on the brink of her second Test century, went deep into her crease to Sharma and was also trapped in front.

After Georgia Elwiss was caught at first slip by diving, tumbling Mithali Raj, it was down to debutant Sophia Dunkley, the first black woman of England in Test cricket, to guide them to the close without any further damage.

India could have made inroads previously. Sciver should have been caught at mid-wicket on 34 but was dropped by Sharma, while Smriti Mandhana was guilty of a poor drop at first slip to reprieve opener Winfield-Hill.

Wasim Khan: regrets on using ‘inappropriate’ words for Pakistani journalists

Wasim Khan: regrets on using ‘inappropriate’ words for Pakistani journalists

‘Wasim Khan’ Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) CEO has regretted the inappropriate words he used for few Pakistani journalists.

PCB released Wasim’s statement which read as: “On Saturday during an interview, I made some comments about some members of the media. On reflection, my selection of words and the tenor was inappropriate, which I regret. The continued and unending tirade against me based on my loyalty and commitment to Pakistan cricket took its toll on me.

“I look forward to building and strengthening my relationships with the media but also hope their assessment, analysis, and scrutiny will be on my work, performance, and contributions.”

A couple of days back, on YouTube Wasim said Pakistani Journalism is a ‘circus’ that has been continuously pointing his United Kingdom (UK) citizenship.

He said, “I know there are comments about me that I am a British national, etc. One particular journalist talks about this every time, his two children are studying in the UK as well. If he is so patriotic that he is accusing me, why are his children still in the UK? They are benefitting from this system. They don’t talk on cricket, they have their agendas”.

He concluded, “These so-called experts talk about my salary or why I’m sitting in the UK, due to Covid; it’s nonsense. People from media of other countries text me and ask me about this circus in our media and who these jokers are? This is not good for our country’s image”.

Yuvraj Singh predicted the team which has an advantage in the WTC final

Yuvraj Singh predicted the team which has an advantage in the WTC final

Yuvraj Singh’ predicted the winning team in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. He also argued in favor of having the best of three Tests for the finale of the grand event.

The Indian team will face New Zealand in the WTC final at Southampton on 18th June, currently, they are in mandatory quarantine in England.

Experts are predicting their favorites for winning the inaugural title.

Sunil Gavaskar’ former Indian cricketer feels that India could be at an advantage if New Zealand loses their Tests match against England.

‘Brett Lee’ former Australian pacer stated that New Zealand could be at an advantage.

Yuvraj Singh’ former Indian all-rounder also jumped into the bandwagon and stated that New Zealand is playing their two-match red-ball series against England which would give New Zealand an advantage as they would be better prepared for the English conditions.

Yuvraj said, “There are 8-10 practice sessions (for Team India) but there’s no substitute for match-practice. It will be an even contest but New Zealand will have an edge. I do believe India is very strong because lately, we have been winning outside the country. I think our batting is stronger, in bowling they are at par”.

Yuvraj also told that instead of a one-off Test final, there should be a best of three matches in whites for the culmination of the two-and-a-half-year event.

He concluded, “I feel in a situation like this, there should be a best of 3 Tests, because if you lose the first one then you can come back in the next two. India will have a slight disadvantage because New Zealand is already playing Test cricket in England”.

Rain stopped England vs New Zealand, as 3rd day of 1st Test washed out

Rain stopped England vs New Zealand, as 3rd day of 1st Test washed out

In the Lord s Pavilion, England and New Zealand were left kicking their heels after rain prevented any play on the third day of the first Test.

All the day the pitch and square were remained fully covered and the umpires were following an inspection while the rain was still falling.

Management announced at 4:31 pm that there was no prospect of play before the cut-off time for a re-start of 6:00 pm.

The game is set to resume at 11:00 am on Saturday, with 98 overs, as opposed to the standard 90 scheduled to be bowled in a bid to help and compensate for Friday’s play.

The game is intriguingly poised, with England 111-2 in reply to New Zealand’s first-innings 378 that featured debutant ‘Devon Conway’ 200, the highest score by a batsman making his Test bow in England.

England was 267 runs behind, slumped to 18-2 before ending the second day with ‘Rory Burns’ 59 not out and England captain ‘Joe Root’ 42 not out following an unbroken stand of 93.

New Zealand looked like batting England out of the game while South Africa-born opener ‘Conway’ and fellow left-hander ‘Henry Nicholls’ (61) were sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 174.

But New Zealand lost four wickets for just six runs as they slumped from 288-3 to 294-7, with Mark Wood, the fastest member of England’s pace quartet, instigating a collapse.

In the meantime, Test debutant paceman ‘Ollie Robinson’ led England s attack with 4-75 in the first of this two-Test series.

The second Test is due to take place at Birmingham s Edgbaston from 10th June to 14th June.

New Zealand will then remain in England to face India in the first World Test Championship final at Hampshire s Ageas Bowl.

Muhammad Wasim announced Pakistan squad for England, West Indies tour

Pakistan Cricket Board

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selector (Muhammad Wasim) has included four experienced players and included uncapped Azam Khan in the squad for England and West Indies tour.

Wasim has included four experienced players and included uncapped Azam Khan in the squads for the tours of England and the West Indies. Pakistan will play three ODIs and as many T20Is in England from 8th July to 20th July, before taking on world champions West Indies in five T20Is that will be followed by two Tests.

Middle-order batsman ‘Haris Sohail’ has been named in the ODI side, however, Imad Wasim has returned to the T20 side. Fast bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah have returned to the Test side.

Yasir Shah would be included according to his fitness as he is yet to fully recover from the knee injury that sidelined him from the Zimbabwe Tests.

Wasim has retained leg-spinner ‘Zahid Mahmood’ along with left-arm spinner ‘Nauman Ali’ and off-spinner ‘Sajid Khan’ for the Jamaica Tests.

Uncapped ‘Saud Shakeel’ has also reclaimed his spot after missing South Africa ODIs due to an injury. ‘Salman Ali Agha’ is also included for ODIs who have lost their Test spot.

‘Fakhar Zaman’ has maintained his place in the original squad after being drafted as an additional player for Zimbabwe T20Is following a stellar performance in South Africa.

Quetta Gladiator’s ‘Azam Khan’, 22, hard-hitting batsman, is the new face in the T20I squad.

ODI Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Usman Qadir.

T20I Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Shadab Khan (vice-captain), Arshad Iqbal, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sharjeel Khan, and Usman Qadir.

Test Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper) (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Faheem Ashraf, Fawad Alam, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Imran Butt, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Nauman Ali, Sajid Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper), Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dahani, Yasir Shah (subject to fitness) and Zahid Mahmood.

Wasim said, “We have remained consistent in our selection and kept the same core of cricketers who have been in the set-up for a while. This is an extremely important and critical tour for Pakistan as we will be playing the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League ODIs against England as well as the T20Is against England and the West Indies as part of our preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Jamaica Test will count towards the ICC World Test Championship.

“As such, keeping in view the above and in consultation with captain Babar Azam and head Misbah-ul-Haq, we have tried our best to maintain the winning combinations but at the same time recalled four experienced players and rewarded uncapped Azam Khan for his domestic performance, while also giving him the required confidence for the future challenges.

“Mohammad Abbas has regained his form, Naseem Shah and Haris Sohail have reclaimed the required fitness standards, while Imad Wasim has been recalled considering the T20 World Cup is likely to be held in the UAE and he enjoys an excellent record there.

“The return of these four players meant we had to leave some players, which is never an easy decision. But we have collectively opted for what was in the best interest of the side, taking into consideration the opponents and the requirement of the formats on the upcoming tours.

“The players who have missed on selection will remain part of our strategy, and, as such, they will continue to work on their technical game at the National High-Performance Centre under the watchful eyes of Mohammad Yousuf and Saqlain Mushtaq.

“Yasir Shah’s inclusion is subject to clearing his fitness test. He was sidelined due to a knee injury after the second Test against South Africa earlier this year and was expected to reclaim complete fitness for the West Indies tour. It, however, has not been the case, but we remain hopeful that he will complete his rehabilitation before the departure.

“The side since the home series against South Africa has maintained an upward movement, but still there are a few loose ends that we would like to close by the end of the England and West Indies tours so that there is absolute clarity on our compositions for the post-West Indies tour engagements.

“I strongly believe the changes will plug those gaps and will put us in a strong position in our endeavors to feature in the top three across all formats by the end of 2023.”

Lord’s will be going to host England vs New Zealand Test

Lord’s will be going to host England vs New Zealand Test

On 2nd June, at the Lord’s Stadium, London, England will play its first Test of a two-match series on their home ground this summer against New Zealand.

England decided to take the field without Test regular players and multi-format players like Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler, and Jonny Bairstow, on the other hand.

New Zealand has the golden opportunity to get prepared for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, which will happen later this month.

Their goal will be to make the most of these two games to get used to the conditions and get their team mish-mash right.

In the meantime, the cricketing world will see the new talent of England with Ollie Robinson and James Bracey getting call-ups.

Fresh Haseeb Hameed, who made his Test debut against India in the year 2016, has also been involved in the squad. After getting injured Ben Foakes could be replaced by Sam Billings who will be making his Test debut in the game.

Pitch and Weather conditions:

Lord’s ground has not hosted any international game for more than twenty months.

The wicket at Lord’s is a balanced one with something in it both for batsmen and the bowlers. The seam bowlers could get some advantage off the wicket in the match, whereas the spin bowlers could have an impact on the fourth and fifth days of the game.

However, there is a huge chance of rain impacting the match due to the shower forecast on the game’s third, fourth, and fifth days.

Predicted XIs:

England: Dominic Sibley, Rory Burns, James Bracey(WK), Joe Root(C), Ollie Pope, Daniel Lawrence, Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Jack Leach, and Olly Stone.

New Zealand: Tom Blundell, Tom Latham, Kane Williamson(C), Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, BJ Watling(WK), Darryl Mitchell, Kyle Jamieson, Ajaz Patel, Tim Southee, and Neil Wagner.
