Karachi: No respite from hour-long power outage for residents

Karachi power shortage

The residents of Karachi are left to reckon with prolonged power outages for up to 10 hours in various areas.

The K-Electric spokesperson has said that the power breakdown in Karachi is being conducted due to reduced gas pressure. He further added that the production of 300 megawatts of electricity is affected as a result and the K-Electric has contacted the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) authorities to solve the problem.

The SSGC has stressed that there is no gas load-shedding in its franchise areas. Instead, a low-pressure situation has been created due to diminishing gas supplies from different gas fields owned by E&P companies.

Currently, the SSGC faces a shortfall of 150 mmcfd gas as a result of which the company’s line pack system has been effected.

The SSGC is therefore following the government’s gas load management plan whereby the company is giving first preference in the supply of gas to the domestic sector.

Power outages are being held in areas including Malir, Liaquatabad, Abul Hassan Isphani Road, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, New Karachi Town, North Nazimabad, and others.
