PSL 2021: Noor Ahmad Helps Karachi Kings To Keep Their Playoff Hopes Alive

PSL 2021: Noor Ahmad Helps Karachi Kings To Keep Their Playoff Hopes Alive

Noor Ahmad Afghanistan’s left-arm spinner keeps Karachi Kings playoff hopes alive as they crushed Lahore Qalandars by seven runs and bag their fourth win of Pakistan Super League (PSL) sixth edition.

Karachi opts to bat, Babar Azam (54) and Martin Guptill (43) laid the platform for Karachi 176/5 with their 88-run stand. Noor then had figures of 4-0-19-2 to keep Lahore at bay.

Karachi lost Sharjeel early but recovered well with the second-wicket Babar-Guptill stand. There was a tremble as they went from 109 runs for 1 wicket to 132 runs for 5 wickets by the end of the 16th over.

Imad Wasim’s 30 runs off 19 balls and Danish Aziz’s 16 runs off 10 balls produced the much-needed late fireworks to push the score past 170 runs. Lahore was left regretting being poor on the field as they dropped Babar’s catch three times during his half-century.

Fakhar Zaman smashes two sixes in the first over but soon found it tough to get going. He sooner fell for 19 runs off 26 balls as the batsmen continued to struggle for pace. Mohammad Hafeez made 36 runs off 36 balls but Noor’s twin strikes and the run-out of Agha Salman meant the side slipped to 92 runs for 5 wickets in 14 overs.

Tim David was in an unforgiving mood and swung his side’s fortune with his 34 runs off 14 balls as James Faulkner’s 33 runs off 18 balls too had his share of fun. Their 58-runs stand left Karachi feeling nervous.

However, Abbas Afridi provided the crucial breakthrough on the last ball of the 18th over as he dismissed David with Lahore 27 runs away. Faulkner fell in the final over as Rashid Khan and Shaheen Afridi failed to close the chase.

PSL 2021: Moin Khan Regrets Players’ Poor Performance After Gladiators’ Defeat

PSL 2021: Gladiators' Moin Khan

After the defeat by Multan Sultans in Wednesday night’s match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, Quetta Gladiators are now out of the playoffs race.

Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan has regretted the inconsistency in the availability of foreign players throughout the season after his side was eliminated from the race to reach the play-offs of PSL 2021.

Moin Khan agreed that his side played poor cricket throughout the season and insisted that he won’t give any excuses for it.

“I won’t give any excuses, we played poorly,” Khan said.

“We couldn’t get our combination right. We kept losing our important players ahead of every game which broke our momentum. We earlier had Gayle, then he left. We had Qais, who won a game for us but then the league was suspended and then in this leg, we lost Andre Russell and Faf du Plessis in back to back matches. This dented us,” he said.

It becomes very difficult when players don’t perform with consistency,” said Gladiators’ coach.

He further highlighted that players lacked game awareness which cost his side important matches.

“This is top-level cricket and players should know what is expected from them. Game awareness was missing in some youngsters and they repeated the same mistakes. Players must learn to perform according to the situation, it is important to learn from their mistakes if they want to do well in their career. It is important to have game awareness,” he said.

He, however, hoped to end the tournament on a positive note.

Quetta has suffered a blow as their star batsman Faf du Plessis withdrew from the tournament earlier today after a nasty collision he had suffered a few days back with his teammate Mohammad Hasnain during fielding.

He will be flying back to South Africa tonight.

Quetta didn’t have a good start at the Abu Dhabi leg and lost two consecutive games before beating Lahore by 18 runs. But despite the win over PSL 2020’s finalists, Quetta will have to do a lot to keep the momentum going as their batting remains the main cause of worry for the team management.

Meanwhile, Multan is off to a flying start in Abu Dhabi as they have won both its matches and look confident.
They’ve won three of their seven matches and are currently at 4th place with six points, above Karachi, on the net run rate rankings.

PSL 2021: Quetta Gladiators Vs Multan Sultans, Match No. 25

PSL 2021: Quetta Gladiators Vs Multan Sultans, Match No. 25

Lahore Qalandars defeated by 18 runs last night, Quetta Gladiators will be aiming to pull another upset and keep themselves afloat in the competition when the former champions face Multan Sultans in match 25 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) sixth edition.

Meanwhile, the Multan Sultans went off to a flying start in Abu Dhabi and won both its matches and looks confident.

They’ve won three of their seven matches and are currently at 4th place with six points, above Karachi on the net run rate.

The current form of its captain Rizwan is highly encouraging. Sohaib Maqsood also seems to be in a flamboyant mood, intending to go on a rampage against bowlers. Young Shahnawaz Dahani is also back in form with a 4-fer in the last match and aims to remain the top bowler of the tournament.

Quetta, on other hand, will have to see if Faf du Plessis will be available for the contest or not after he decided to opt-out of the game against Lahore on Tuesday. Quetta will also hope for another mature inning from Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The performance of bowlers against Lahore will be a morale booster for Sarfaraz and he will ask them to repeat the show against Multan.

Quetta will also have a psychological edge over Multan as their only win before beating Lahore in this tournament was against Multan, during the Karachi leg of the tournament. Young Usman Khan had then scored 81 off 50 balls.

PSL 2021: Peshawar Zalmi Wins The Toss, Elects To Field Against Karachi Kings

Peshawar Zalmi elected to field first after winning the toss against Karachi Kings in match 24 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) sixth edition.

Karachi will try hard to avoid being pushed to the edge of elimination in today’s game.

Karachi, led by Imad Wasim, didn’t enjoy a good start in Abu Dhabi ever since the league resumed, having lost both games, first against Multan Sultans and then against the Islamabad United on Monday night.

They currently have attained six points from seven games after winning three and losing four matches. A defeat tonight could bring them dangerously close to elimination from the league, as Multan also with six points from seven games, are finding their form.

Peshawar is also not short of being inconsistent this season, as they’ve won four out of eight games played up till now. Three of these games were in Abu Dhabi where Peshawar former champions were beaten twice.

PSL 2021: Lahore Qalandars Wins The Toss, Elects To Field Against Quetta Gladiators

Lahore Qalandars have decided to field first against Quetta Gladiators in match 23 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) sixth edition.

Lahore went down by 28 runs against Islamabad on Saturday after first reducing them to 20 runs for 5 wickets and then being at 86 runs for 2 wickets in 10 overs and chased 153 runs target. They were bowled out for 124 after their middle-order collapsed.

The defeat may be an eye-opener for Lahore head coach Aqib Javed and captain Sohail Akhtar but the side is not going to get panicked and unlikely to make any changes against Quetta.

Sarfaraz Ahmed, the former champions have won just one out of their seven games in the tournament so far and another defeat can throw out them of the contention to qualify for the play-offs.

They will be, undoubtedly, under pressure as their batting and bowling have been disappointing up till now. After being outclassed by Islamabad in the first outing, they were overpowered by strong Peshawar Zalmi’s side.
