PSL 2021: Moin Khan Regrets Players’ Poor Performance After Gladiators’ Defeat

PSL 2021: Gladiators' Moin Khan

After the defeat by Multan Sultans in Wednesday night’s match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021, Quetta Gladiators are now out of the playoffs race.

Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan has regretted the inconsistency in the availability of foreign players throughout the season after his side was eliminated from the race to reach the play-offs of PSL 2021.

Moin Khan agreed that his side played poor cricket throughout the season and insisted that he won’t give any excuses for it.

“I won’t give any excuses, we played poorly,” Khan said.

“We couldn’t get our combination right. We kept losing our important players ahead of every game which broke our momentum. We earlier had Gayle, then he left. We had Qais, who won a game for us but then the league was suspended and then in this leg, we lost Andre Russell and Faf du Plessis in back to back matches. This dented us,” he said.

It becomes very difficult when players don’t perform with consistency,” said Gladiators’ coach.

He further highlighted that players lacked game awareness which cost his side important matches.

“This is top-level cricket and players should know what is expected from them. Game awareness was missing in some youngsters and they repeated the same mistakes. Players must learn to perform according to the situation, it is important to learn from their mistakes if they want to do well in their career. It is important to have game awareness,” he said.

He, however, hoped to end the tournament on a positive note.

PSL 2021: Gladiators aiming to pull another upset Against Sultans Tonight

PSL 2021 Gladiators vs Sultans

After adding solidarity points in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 after defeating Lahore Qalandars last night, team Quetta Gladiators will face Multan Sultans in the 25th match in Abu Dhabi today (Wednesday).

The Sarfaraz-led side didn’t have a good start at the Abu Dhabi leg and won two consecutive PSL 2021 matches before beating a good-looking Lahore side by 18 runs.

Whereas, the Mohammad Rizwan-led unit has won both its matches and looks confident.

They’ve secured victory in three of their seven matches and are currently at 4th place with six points, above Karachi on the net run rate.

For Sultans, the current form of its captain Rizwan is highly encouraging. On the other hand, Gladiators will have to see if Faf du Plessis will be available for the contest or not after he decided to opt-out of the game against Lahore Qalandars on Tuesday.

PSL 2021: Gladiators’ Faf du Plessis Suffers blow to the head After Collision With Teammate

Faf du Plessis PSL 2021 concussion

Quetta Gladiators’ Faf du Plessis suffered a blow to the head when he collided with his teammate Mohammad Hasnain during the match with Peshawar Zalmi, who won by 61-runs in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021.

Faf du Plessis was replaced in the XI by Saim Ayub as a substitute after being ruled out due to the concussion to play for PSL 2021 remainders.

The 36-year-old lay prone on the ground while the Gladiators physio attended him before he got up and was taken to hospital.

“Thank you, everyone, for all the messages of support,” du Plessis wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

“I’m back at the hotel recovering. Have a concussion with some memory loss but I will be fine. Hopefully, be back on the field soon. Much love,” he added.

Earlier, the Gladiators suffered a major blowout after West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell left the tournament halfway as he was hit on his helmet by a Mohammad Musa bouncer in the match against Islamabad United.

The player was checked over by a physio and was allowed to bat on but was out in the very next ball. He was taken to hospital, with Naseem Shah playing as a concussion substitute.

However, Russell is now being replaced by the Emirati cricketer Zahoor Khan.

On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators will play against Lahore Qalandars in their next match on Tuesday, June 15.
