EU mandates USB Type-C for Apple iPhones by 2024

EU mandates USB Type-C
  • USB Type C port will replace the current smartphone standard as of the “end of 2024”.
  • Apple’s iPhones are the only smartphones that continue to use its exclusive Lightning Port.
  • Future iPhone models will also be able to have faster charging speeds according to the company.

For some time now, the European Union (EU) has been attempting to standardize the charging port for consumer electronics.

However, as a result of the most recent regulation, Apple will have to release its upcoming iPhones with a USB Type C connector.

The USB Type C port will replace the current smartphone standard as of the “end of 2024,” according to an official press release.

Additionally, this regulation covers tablets and cameras in addition to cell phones. Future iPhones will be most significantly impacted by the adjustment, though.

Apple’s iPhones are the only smartphones that continue to use its exclusive Lightning Port as of right now.

This connector is included on even the newest iPhone 14 series. But with the new mission, this may need to change in a matter of years.

However, since users wouldn’t have to be constrained to the Lightning Port charges that Apple and a few select partners sell, it would only be better for them.

Future iPhone models will also be able to have faster charging speeds according to the Cupertino-based company.

Around the release of the iPhone 16 series, we may anticipate the firm will adopt the USB Type C standard.

However, based on Apple’s resistance to change, it might even be put off until the iPhone 17 lineup.

The news release’s statement that “the new restrictions would not apply to products placed on the market before the date of application [of the rules]” implies that this would happen.

Apple dismisses plan to raise iPhone production as demand declines

Apple dismisses plan to raise iPhone production
  • Apple has decided against increasing the manufacturing of the devices this year.
  • Suppliers were told to scale back plans to raise production of its premium iPhone 14 product line.
  • Instead, Apple plans to make 90 million devices for the time period.

After the predicted jump in demand for its new iPhones did not occur, Apple has decided against increasing manufacturing of the devices this year, a global media outlet claimed on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the situation.

According to the media site, the company instructed suppliers to scale back plans to raise production of its premium iPhone 14 product line by up to 6 million units in the second half of this year.

Instead, the company with its headquarters in Cupertino, California, plans to make 90 million devices for the time period, roughly the same as a year ago and in accordance with Apple’s first prediction this summer, according to the source.

As a result of the greater demand for the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models compared to the entry-level devices, at least one Apple supplier is switching production capacity from cheaper iPhones to premium models.

As the tech giant shifts some of its production away from China, Apple announced this week that it would begin producing the iPhone 14, which was introduced earlier this month, in India.

Apple to produce 25% of iPhones in India by 2025

Apple iPhones
  • Apple may produce one out of every four iPhones in India by 2025.
  • India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China.
  • Apple started assembling iPhones there in 2017 with Wistron and later with Foxconn.

According to J.P. Morgan analysts, Apple may produce one out of every four iPhones in India by 2025 as it shifts some production away from China due to rising geopolitical tensions and stringent COVID-19 lockdowns in that nation.

India, the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China, is predicted by the brokerage to receive around 5% of Apple’s iPhone 14 manufacturing starting in late 2022.

Additionally, it predicts that by 2025, from 5% today, approximately 25% of all Apple products, including Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and AirPods, would be produced outside of China.

Apple, based in Cupertino, California, has placed a significant wager on India since it started assembling iPhones there in 2017 with Wistron and later with Foxconn, in keeping with the Indian government’s goal for domestic manufacturing.

Business supply chain relocation plans were impeded by the pandemic, but now that limitations have been relaxed, more firms, including Apple, are stepping up their efforts this year.

“Taiwanese suppliers like Hon Hai and Pegatron are crucial to the move to India. Additionally, we anticipate Apple will evaluate domestic manufacturers in India in the medium- to long-term,” according to J.P.Morgan analysts under the direction of Gokul Hariharan, whose rating for estimate accuracy is a 4 out of 5.

In line with Apple’s intentions to reduce its manufacturing gap with China, a Bloomberg story from earlier this month said that the Indian giant Tata Group was in discussions with Wistron to form a joint venture to produce iPhones there.

Apple to discontinue producing older iPhones

Apple to discontinue producing older iPhones
  • Apple announces iPhone 14 series at its ‘Far Out’ event.
  • The company also stopped selling the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 Mini starting in 2019.
  • Older iPhone models will continue to be offered to merchants worldwide.

Yesterday, Apple formally announced the iPhone 14 series at its ‘Far Out’ event.

AirPods Pro 2nd Gen, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch Ultra were available with the most recent iPhones.

Unsurprisingly, the American tech titan also revealed that some outdated iPhone models will no longer be produced.

The new Pro models have replaced the old Pro models in Apple’s iPhone lineup, just like every year.

In other words, starting in 2021, the business will no longer sell the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The iPhone 13 Pro series delivered some substantial enhancements.

A 120Hz LTPO display, an enhanced triple camera system, significantly longer battery life, and other improvements were added.

The company also stops selling the iPhone 11 starting in 2019.

It was the first base model iPhone to enable cable charging at 18W, twin cameras, and 4GB of RAM.

The iPhone 12 Mini was discontinued by Apple starting in 2020.

On its debut, it was the cheapest iPhone with an OLED display, one of the first 5G iPhones, and the first Mini iPhone.

As a result, this is how the current Apple iPhone family is configured.

  • iPhone SE 3rd Gen (2022)
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 14
  • iPhone 14 Plus
  • iPhone 14 Pro
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max

However, it is important to note that even though Apple has officially discontinued selling the aforementioned older iPhone models, they will continue to be offered to merchants worldwide as long as supplies last.

Last but not least, since the iPhone 11 has been discontinued, Apple only offers 5G-capable smartphones.
