Enraged Karachiites beat three suspected robbers to death

KARACHI: In an act of retaliation for the killing of a shopkeeper during a robbery attempt in Orangi Town on Thursday afternoon, enraged citizens reportedly beat three suspected robbers to death.

The incident unfolded when the three robbers entered Sheroz Aslam’s shop in Qaddafi Chowk, Orangi Town, attempting to snatch valuables, including cash. The shopkeeper resisted, leading to a confrontation in which he lost his life after the robbers opened fire.

Upon hearing gunshots, residents rushed to the scene and apprehended the three suspected robbers attempting to flee. The angered residents subjected them to severe beatings with kicks, fists, and clubs, resulting in the immediate death of the suspects.

Police later transported the bodies of both the robbers and the shopkeeper to the hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The incident highlights a prevailing issue where armed robbers act with impunity, often resorting to lethal force when faced with resistance.

This has led to a perception that law enforcement has failed in preventing such crimes. In a similar incident on December 21, a food delivery rider from a private company was shot dead during a robbery attempt in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area.

The victim, Muhammad Arsalan Shamshad, resisted the robbery, and the assailants shot him in the chest before fleeing the scene.
