In a tragic car accident near Etihad Mall in Al Khawaneej, Dubai, two lives were lost when a high-speed sports car fell from a bridge, according to Dubai Police on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at 11:55 pm on Tuesday, as reported by Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, the director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. While the nationality of the deceased individuals was not disclosed, it was confirmed that the victims were a man and a woman.
Al Mazrouei said: “The driver was overspeeding. As the car approached the bridge’s curve, it skidded and collided with the curb and the concrete barrier, then fell from the bridge to the street below.”
“Due to the excessive speed, the car continued in the opposite direction on the lower street until it came to rest on the median strip, where it caught fire, resulting in the deaths of the driver and a woman accompanying him,” he added.
As soon as the incident occurred, the police and rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene. Traffic patrols were deployed to regulate the flow of traffic, ensure the safety of the accident site, and facilitate the prompt arrival of ambulances and rescue vehicles.
