LAHORE: The progress towards seat adjustment between the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) for the upcoming general elections has encountered obstacles.
Sources revealed that PML-Q proposed adjusting four National Assembly (NA) and seven Provincial Assembly (PA) seats in collaboration with PML-N for the upcoming general elections.
However, the PML-N was only willing to accommodate two NA and one PA seats for PML-Q. The disagreement stemmed from PML-N’s reluctance to adjust more than three seats for the Pakistan Muslim League Quaid.
Earlier this month, it was reported that PML-Q was contemplating seat adjustment with PML-N on more than two National Assembly and Punjab Assembly seats in Gujrat. Chaudhry Shafay Hussain expressed his desire to contest elections on both MPA seats from Gujrat.
PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is expected to meet former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss the details of the ‘seat adjustment.’
It is noteworthy that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Parliamentary Board had previously opposed seat adjustment with PML-Q.
In contrast, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) have reached an agreement on a seat-to-seat adjustment formula following discussions between Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Sources indicated that both parties extensively discussed the country’s political landscape, their political strategies, and the formulation of a seat adjustment formula for the upcoming general elections in 2024.
It was reported that the two parties also agreed to form a coalition with like-minded political parties in Sindh, and Nawaz Sharif informed Fazlur Rehman about an agreement with Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
