ISLAMABAD: The federal capital and its adjoining areas experienced a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale on Monday.
The seismic activity, with a depth of 140 kilometers, originated 103 kilometers east of Doda District in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Residents, fearing the quake, came out of their homes reciting Kalma-e-Tayyaba. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage in any part of Islamabad thus far.
In the preceding month, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake shook Gilgit and its surrounding areas. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed tremors in Gilgit but reported no loss of life or property damage. The quake had a depth of 45 kilometers, and its epicenter was recorded 84 kilometers northwest.
In October, Karachi, the capital of Sindh province, experienced a mild earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre Islamabad reported the quake’s depth at 15 kilometers, with the epicenter near the Quaidabad area of Karachi.
