Punjab offers temporary challan relief for drivers facing license renewal delays

City Traffic Police in Lahore have launched a rigorous crackdown against underage drivers, prompting a surge in citizens visiting license centers to avoid penalties.

In response to the overwhelming demand and long queues, authorities in Punjab have announced temporary relief for citizens undergoing the cumbersome process of obtaining a driving license.

Facing delays in acquiring licenses, the government declared a 3-day grace period during which no challans would be issued.

However, this concession applies only to those with a valid license token. Punjab’s interim Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, made this announcement during his visit to the Police Facilitation Center in Lahore, where he interacted with a large number of commuters expressing grievances.

Citizens informed Mr. Naqvi about issues related to the slow networking system and long queues, leading him to direct the DG Punjab IT Board to expedite the process and improve system efficiency.

The Chief Minister reiterated that no challans would be issued to license token holders for the next 3 days, offering a reprieve to those facing challenges in obtaining their driving licenses.

Earlier, the interim government announced an increase in learners’ driving license fees, raising them from Rs 60 to Rs 1,000, effective January 1, 2024.
