Punjab government orders closure of schools for tomorrow

Lahore: The Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced the removal of smog-related restrictions for the upcoming weekend. While schools will remain closed on Saturday, markets, businesses, restaurants, and other establishments will operate as usual over the weekend.

The decision reflects a positive shift in the smog situation, credited to recent rainfall in Lahore, resulting in a noteworthy improvement in the Air Quality Index. Lahore, previously ranked high among the most polluted cities, has now dropped to the seventh position.

Chief Minister Naqvi highlighted that this improvement has allowed for the relaxation of restrictions, bringing a sense of normalcy to daily activities. However, he emphasized the ongoing need for cleaning roads, sprinkling water, and cracking down on smoke-emitting vehicles.

Additionally, Chief Minister Naqvi stressed the continuation of efforts against tire-burning factories to sustain the progress made. Winter vacations for educational institutions in Punjab are scheduled for December 18, providing a respite for students and educators.

This announcement reflects a concerted effort by the government to balance public health and daily life, showcasing the positive impact of collective measures against environmental challenges.
