Bilawal calls for ‘People’s Charter of Democracy’ to address current crises

QUETTA: Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasized the need for a “People’s Charter of Democracy” in Pakistan as a means to navigate the country through its current crises. He said this while addressing a public gathering on the occasion of the PPP’s 56th Foundation Day, here on Thursday.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that the PPP is not opposed to any political entity but is focused on addressing issues such as inflation and unemployment prevailing in the nation.

The PPP chief apparently lowered his rhetoric against his rivals in his first public interaction since his father Asif Ali Zardari’s interview wherein the top PPP leader termed his son “inexperienced” while expressing displeasure over his tirade against the elder politicians.

During his speech, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to the founding chairman and the first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He underscored that the PPP is more than just a political party; it is a movement, founded by the late Bhutto based on his political acumen and foresight.

Expressing determination to uphold the legacies of Shaheed Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, the former foreign minister asserted that they are committed to implementing their mission.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari highlighted the role of the former president in burying the politics of hatred and revenge.

He criticized the current state of politics in Pakistan, stating that the politics of division and hatred are inflicting significant harm on the country and its people.

“We have to do politics wherein we should think about unity and not of division. The PPP wants to start a new kind of politics in the country,” Bilawal said.

He said his party wanted to promote a style of politics under which there is no rival party of the PPP.

“PPP is fighting against inflation and poverty due to which people are suffering. The old style of politics is based on hatred, division, and revenge. The country’s youth needs to bury such politics,” the PPP chief added.

According to him, senior politicians are settling personal scores, and he specifically mentioned that despite facing 12 years of imprisonment, Asif Zardari refrained from seeking revenge upon coming into power.

Bilawal reiterated his stance on moving away from a politics of vendetta to address crucial issues like inflation and unemployment affecting the masses.

Addressing the gathering, former President Asif Ali Zardari called for the support of his son to make him the country’s youngest prime minister.

“We have to teach Bilawal what we know we have to train him to make him a leader of the youth.”

The former president also said that some forces are always at play to pull the legs of a leader who wants to take the country forward.

“We are not afraid of such forces. We trust our people.”
