Former Indian cricketer and spinner Harbhajan Singh has come under fire for making controversial remarks about Bollywood actresses Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty during the World Cup Final match between India and Australia.
Singh, who was part of the Hindi commentary team for the match, questioned Sharma and Shetty’s understanding of cricket while they were watching the game from the stands. “I was wondering whether they are talking about cricket or films,” Singh said. “I don’t know how much they understand about cricket.”
His remarks immediately sparked outrage on social media, with many fans accusing him of sexism. “What do you mean that the ladies understand cricket or not?” one user tweeted. “Please apologize immediately.”
Another user wrote, “Typical Harbhajan Singh. Disgrace as a person. ‘Filmo ki baat ho rahi hogi ya cricket ki- Pata nahi cricket ki kitni samaj hogi’. Pathetic.“
Singh has yet to respond to the backlash, but his comments have cast a shadow over India’s victory in the World Cup Final.
