Israel-Hamas War: Emergency Aid to Gaza Grinds to a Halt Amid Fuel Crisis

  • Israeli strike near Rafah reported by Wafa
  • Al Jazeera: Nine casualties, no Israeli comment, Reuters unverified
  • UN halts cross-border aid; 2nd day without supplies in Gaza

Wafa, the Palestinian news agency, reported casualties among Palestinians from an Israeli strike near the Rafah border crossing, a vital aid transit point between Gaza and Egypt.

Al Jazeera sources mentioned nine fatalities, but Israel has not commented, and Reuters could not independently verify the incident.

The UN confirmed the suspension of cross-border aid operations on Friday. Fuel shortages persisted, leading to a second consecutive day without aid trucks reaching Gaza.

Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the WFP, emphasized the urgent need for food assistance, stating that almost the entire population is in desperate need.

The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) said civilians faced the “immediate possibility of starvation” due to the lack of food supplies.

“Supplies of food and water are practically non-existent in Gaza and only a fraction of what is needed is arriving through the borders,” she said in a statement.

“With winter fast approaching, unsafe and overcrowded shelters, and the lack of clean water, civilians are facing the immediate possibility of starvation,” McCain said.
