Paula Shugart, the Miss Universe Organization’s long-serving President, has announced her retirement after more than two decades of service. Shugart’s decision, announced during the Miss Universe National Costume Show in El Salvador on November 16, 2023, marks the end of an era.

Shugart, who was born in December 1959 in New York, obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Communications at Ohio University. The 63-year-old, who is well-known for her television productions, grew up with two brothers and lost her mother to cancer in 1994.

Shugart, who stands about 5 feet 3 inches tall, has been married to musician Carl Allison since July 2015. The pair frequently posts peeks of their lives on social media.

Shugart’s incredible career began in 1998, when she joined The Miss Universe Organization, and she now has a net worth of $6 million. She rose through the ranks to become President in January 2001. Her contributions to different beauty pageants and productions are notable.
