- IDF confirms death of soldier captured by Hamas in Gaza
- Noa Marciano, 19, informed deceased, family notified
- Hamas video denounced as “psychological terrorism” by IDF
The Israeli military has acknowledged the death of a soldier seized by Hamas and held in Gaza after the group’s substantial assault on Israel on October 7.
Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) reported informing the family of 19-year-old Corporal Noa Marciano about her demise.
Cpl Marciano was featured in a video released by Hamas on Monday, which the IDF denounced as “psychological terrorism.”
During last month’s attack, where 1,200 people lost their lives, Cpl Marciano was one of approximately 240 hostages taken by Hamas gunmen.
She was stationed as a lookout at the Nahal Oz kibbutz when it was overrun by gunmen who breached the Israel-Gaza border.
The whereabouts of Cpl Marciano, like all the hostages, remained unknown in Gaza.
Hamas’s military wing alleged that Cpl Marciano was killed in an Israeli air strike on November 9, though this claim could not be independently verified.
Following the October 7 attack, Israel initiated a conflict against Hamas, deemed a terrorist organization by various Western governments, including the UK.
According to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 11,000 people in Gaza have lost their lives since then. The IDF reports 46 Israeli soldiers killed in the fighting inside Gaza during the same period.
Since October 7, Hamas has released four hostages, and the IDF has rescued one.
