A British woman, Rita Roberts, who was murdered in Belgium over 30 years ago, has been identified through a landmark police campaign called Operation Identify Me.
Rita’s family recognized her distinctive tattoo in a report, leading to her identification. Rita Roberts was one of 22 murdered women whose identification was sought through the campaign, marking the first time Interpol publicly released a list of black notices for unidentified bodies.
Rita had traveled from Cardiff to Antwerp in 1992, and her body was found four months later.
Interpol’s campaign has received around 1,250 tips related to the 22 women, and authorities are now calling for information about Rita Roberts to bring closure to the case.
