Como B Team Welcomes Cesc Fabregas as New Manager

  • Cesc Fabregas becomes interim head coach for Como 1907.
  • He replaces Moreno Longo after team’s poor performances.
  • Fabregas is a player and shareholder of Como.

In a surprising turn of events, former football star Cesc Fabregas has ventured into the realm of coaching, as he was appointed the interim head coach of Italian Serie B side Como 1907. The announcement came on Monday, following the dismissal of Moreno Longo due to the team’s lackluster performances that left them in sixth place in the Serie B points table.

Como 1907 officially confirmed the managerial change in a statement, saying, “Como 1907 and Moreno Longo have parted company. The search for a new Head Coach begins immediately with Cesc Fabregas and the current coaching staff taking over duties for the interim period.” The decision, according to the club’s board, was part of a strategic plan aimed at revitalizing the team’s performance.

Fabregas, who joined Como in August 2022 after leaving A.S. Monaco, has been involved with the club both as a player and a shareholder. The Spanish midfielder, alongside former teammates Thierry Henry, became a shareholder after joining the Serie B side. Following his retirement from professional football on July 1, 2023, Fabregas decided to continue his involvement with Como as a youth coach.

The 35-year-old, considered one of the best midfielders of the last two decades, started his career with Arsenal at the age of 16, playing 212 games for the Gunners before moving to his boyhood club, FC Barcelona. Despite a relatively short stint at Barcelona, Fabregas then moved to Chelsea, where he played a pivotal role in leading the team to Premier League glory.

Internationally, Fabregas earned 110 caps for Spain and was a key figure in the team’s historic achievements, winning Euro 2008, the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012 consecutively.

Fabregas’s managerial debut will see Como 1907 face Feralpisalo after the international break on November 25. His transition from player to coach adds an intriguing chapter to the football icon’s storied career, and fans will be eager to see how he navigates the challenges of leading a team from the sidelines.
