Nadia Mohamed, a 27-year-old Somali-American politician, has become the first Black mayor of St. Louis Park in 170 years, winning with 58% of the vote over retired banker Dale A. Anderson. Mohamed, who was born in Somalia in 1996, and her parents emigrated to the United States when she was ten years old.

Mohamed, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from Metropolitan State University, began her political career at the age of 23, becoming the city council’s youngest member.
