MQM-P, PML-N announce to contest elections together

LAHORE: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) on Tuesday announced to contest general elections together, Bol News reported.

Addressing the press conference after meeting in Jati Umra, residence of former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Senior Deputy Convener MQM-P Syed Mustafa Kamal said there was no doubt that the situation in Pakistan was not good. The country needed strong and difficult decisions at the moment, he said

Mustafa Kamal said strong leadership had to take the country out of the crisis. Nawaz Sharif was known as the senior politician of the region and the experience he had was unmatched, he said.

He apprised that the meeting did not discuss any deal rather they talked about the issues. They would work in collaboration for running and building the country, he said.

The MQM-P senior deputy convener said it was Karachi that could take the country out of the economic crisis not the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He said Karachi was a cow which was milked, but it was not given the fodder.

Senior Deputy Convener MQM-P Farooq Sattar said local government elections in Karachi were before everyone. A mayor was made in Karachi at 5 per cent votes, he said adding that a joint strategy would be adopted in the general elections as well.

Farooq Sattar said no single party was in a position to solve the problems. The country was facing political and economic challenges, he maintained.

Veteran PML-N leader and former aviation and railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique said MQM and PML-N will participate in the elections together. Political, economic, constitutional and legal matters would also be consulted, he said.

He said they were in contact with other parties in Sindh too. He said they would not create distortion in political and social relations.

“The PML-N and Pakistan Peoples Party have a long history. Unity will be seen in the coming days too. Alliance stands with those with whom it is possible,” he said.

Saad Rafique also announced that PML-N leader Bashir Memon had been appointed as the new president of PML-N Sindh.
