Pakistan wins 14 gold medals in Poomsae at Asian Taekwondo Open

  • Pakistan won 14 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals in the Asian Taekwondo Open.
  • Saudi Arabia took first place in the Poomsae event with one gold.
  • Sana Sabir of Pakistan won first place in the women’s under-50 freestyle individual competition.

On a thrilling day at the Liaquat Gymnasium on Thursday, Pakistan emerged victorious in the Poomsae event of the 5th Combaxx Asian Taekwondo Open Championship, taking home 14 gold, 11 silver, and 22 bronze medals.

Nepal had to settle for third place with one gold medal, while Saudi Arabia took first place with one gold, one silver, and two bronze.

With one silver medal, the refugee team placed fourth, and Iran managed one bronze. The Pakistani participants continued to perform admirably on the second day of the competition.

Ameer Hamza of Pakistan took first place in the men’s over-18 solo freestyle competition with 6.73 points. Zymal Naqvi of Pakistan completed the women’s over-18 solo freestyle with a score of 4.56.

Pakistan’s Ameer Hamza and Naila won the gold medal in the freestyle pair over-18 event with a score of 6.76. Pakistan’s Maryam, Usman, Waheed, Abbas, and Naqvi won the gold medal in the mixed team competition with a score of 6.26.

In men’s Under-50 freestyle, Ali Adnan of Saudi Arabia won first place with a score of 7.16. Sana Sabir of Pakistan won the gold medal in the women’s Under-50 freestyle individual competition with a score of 6.23. The competition had earlier begun with a vibrant ceremony held at Pakistan Sports Board’s Liaquat Gymnasium Hall. Players from 27 teams from the same number of nations took part in the march past.
