- Elon Musk announces Starlink’s support for recognized aid organizations in Gaza.
- Musk indicates a lack of terminal requests for connectivity in Gaza.
- Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez criticizes the disruption of communication in Gaza.
Elon Musk has announced that his satellite-based system Starlink “will support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza”.
“It is not clear who has authority for ground links in Gaza, but do we know that no terminal has requested a connection in that area,” Musk said on X.
“No terminals from Gaza have attempted to communicate with our constellation,” he also said in a separate post.
Elon Musk’s remarks followed calls from social media users urging him to utilize Starlink for providing internet access to Gaza, which faced a disruption in telecommunications due to actions by Israel.
Cutting off all communication to a population of 2.2 million is unacceptable. Journalists, medical professionals, humanitarian efforts, and innocents are all endangered.
I do not know how such an act can be defended. The United States has historically denounced this practice. https://t.co/L9iV7TSs2u
