ICC World Cup 2023: de Kock shines as Proteas posts a mammoth target of 383 for Bangladesh

After winning the toss, South Africa decided to bat first against Bangladesh in the 23rd match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

South Africa, who have been in form since the start of the World Cup, posted a mammoth target of 383 runs with some impressive performances from the Proteas players.

Opening batter Quinton de Kock was the star of the inning. He played a blistering knock of 174 runs from 140 balls. He smashed 15 fours and 7 maximums. (Watch here)

Rasai van der Dussan who scored 60 runs from 61 balls managed to score only a single run today from7 balls.

Stand-in skipper Aiden Markram smashed 60 runs from 69 balls with 7 fours. (Watch here) He also scored the fastest century in World Cup history from just 49 balls against Sri Lanka.

Henrich Klaasen played an outstanding inning of 90 runs from just 49 balls with 2 fours and 8 maximums. (Watch here) In the last match against England which the Proteas won by 230 runs, the right-hand batter scored 109 runs from just 67 balls with 12 fours and 4 maximums.

Late overs shots from David Miller helped South Africa post a total of 382 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of 5 wickets.

The first inning showcased some great partnerships as well. Markram and de Kock put up a third wicket of 131 runs while the left-hand wicketkeeper shared a 142-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Bangladeshi bowlers had a hard time restricting the Proteas’ batters. Only Mehidy Hasan managed to concede the least runs. He gave away only 44 runs in 9 overs and took one wicket. Shoriful Islam and Shakib took one wicket each.

Hasan Mahmud was the leading wicket-taker from the Tigers as he bagged 2 wickets but conceded 67 runs in 6 overs.

Bangladesh requires 383 runs from 7.66 runs per over.
