ISLAMABAD: Attorney General for Pakistan Shehzad Ata Elahi has resigned from his designation, Bol News reported on Friday.
Shehzad Ata Elahi was recently appointed as the AGP.
Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar said Attorney General Shehzad Elahi had taken the right decision by submitting his resignation. He said it was necessary for your conscious to be dead for supporting the current regime.
“The oppression and destruction going on in the country is unprecedented. Days of this darkness are numbered now,” he tweeted.
On February 6, the then newly appointed Attorney General of Pakistan, Barrister Shehzad Ata Elahi, had called on President Dr. Arif Alvi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.
On January 23, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan had questioned the appointment of the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) and expressed fury over the delay in appointment.
While conducting a hearing, Justice Qazi Faez Isa had inquired who the attorney general in the country was at that moment.
To which the deputy attorney general had no satisfactory reply and the court had remarked that the government was so incompetent that it could not even appoint an attorney general.
Justice Faez had also inquired if the government was deliberating over the appointment. ‘The Supreme Court has 5,500 lawyers but the government cannot find a single one,’ he had added.
