- The 38-year-old will earn his nation’s 197th cap.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who was selected to start for Portugal in their Euro 2024 qualifier against Liechtenstein on Thursday, will surpass the men’s international appearance record.
The 38-year-old, who was left off of Portugal’s starting lineup for the World Cup in Qatar, will earn his nation’s 197th cap.
Prior to Portugal’s quarterfinal loss to Morocco, Ronaldo made his debut for his country in 2003 and last year became the first player to score in five World Cups.
After a contentious finish to his second stint at Manchester United, he is presently playing for Saudi side Al Nassr.
Ronaldo’s appearance off the bench in the loss against Morocco matched Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait’s previous record of 196 appearances.
As Portugal begins their qualification process for the European Championship in Germany in 2019, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will also be looking to add to his record tally of 118 goals for his country.
