KARACHI: Gas crisis has worsened in the country particularly in urban areas as domestic consumers without the supply of gasoline faced severe problem at the time of Iftar and Sehr on the very first Ramazan.
The Karachi consumers, who are complaining of not getting enough of this essential fuel during mealtimes, said that the gas pressure was very low from 8am to 2:30pm making their Sehri and Iftar difficult.
“Shutting down gas supply in the holy month of Ramadan is insanity. This is summer not winter. The government is making our lives miserable,” a resident of F B Area said.
Another consumer from Liaquatabad lamented, the “The government is increasing the tariff on a daily basis, but is not supplying gas when it is needed the most. What is this?”
Disgruntled consumers complained that the gas supply outage had made it impossible for them to cook meals for patients, the elderly, and children who were unable to fast.
It was learnt that gas supply to areas including F B Area, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Nagin Chowrangi, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and others was suspended since 8am.

According to the SSGC helpline, for Iftar, gas will be supplied to consumers in Karachi from 2:30pm to 07:00pm, while for Sehr it will be available from 2:30am to 05:00am as it was facing a shortfall of 250 million mmBtu.
The gas utility added that consumers would face complete suspension or low pressure during the rest of the hours.
The same situation prevailed in Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh province where the people confronted hardship in making at the time of Sehri and Iftar meals for the elders and young ones who are not observing fast.
In Punjab, Lahore, Rawalpindi and other towns are suffering from low gas pressure at the moment of Sehr and Iftar and the whole day.
In provincial capital of Punjab, Laborites on the very first day of Ramadan, faced intermittent supply of gas during Sehri and Iftar and the rest of the day.
The people appealed to the SNGPL to ensure the supply of gas uninterrupted in at least the month of Ramadan, making their fasts easier.
The consumers contacted helpline 1199 and registered their complaints for resolving their issue but proved in vain.
