- BCCI fails to complete ICC World Cup 2023 hosting requirements.
- Another meeting of the ICC Board was unsuccessful.
- The PCB is particularly concerned about the safety of its team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) failed to submit the necessary undertakings for hosting mega-events like the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled for October of this year. As a result, another meeting of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Board was unsuccessful.
According to a well-informed source within the ICC, the BCCI representatives who attended the ICC board meeting did not provide the Indian government with a tax-exemption certificate, security guarantee, or confirmation, contrary to all expectations. In addition, they failed to guarantee that all individuals, including media personnel and fans planning international travel, would receive Indian visas on time.
“The ICC part nations have been requesting such certifications and endeavours from the BCCI for a long. By raising the issue with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan government and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have already expressed concerns regarding the team’s and fans’ safety and security. However, the BCCI did not present any commitments at the meeting,” the source added.
The PCB is particularly concerned about the safety of its team during its extended time in India. The government has already hinted that the India team’s participation in the Asia Cup in September, which Pakistan will host, and security guarantees from the Indian government to protect the Pakistan team and fans from Hindu extremists are major factors in Pakistan’s World Cup participation.
Surprisingly, the unconfirmed reports from the ICC Board meeting in Dubai mentioned only that the BCCI would make sure the participating teams got visas. The timely issuance of visas to cricket officials, journalists, and fans planning to attend specific matches was not mentioned.
The ICC has also kept completely quiet about the meeting’s outcome, the BCCI’s responsibilities in the special context of tax exemptions, and the security concerns of participating boards.
“There are concerns within member nations regarding the BCCI’s failure to timely submit tax exemption certificates and complete all related formalities. The source stated, “The Board has been assured by the BCCI that they are prepared to make adjustments from their share in the event that the Indian government rejects any tax exemption.”
It is accepted that the ICC expects an incredible measure of $550 million alone from the television privileges’ dispersion. Aside from that there are various different sources and roads that could create enormous incomes.
The World Cup schedule is typically released by the ICC at least a year in advance, but the BCCI has only selected ten venues to host 48 matches so far.
