Brett Lee, a former Australian bowler, has cited Babar Azam as his favourite Pakistani batter.

During an interview, Lee also stated that he admires Azam’s tremendous drive.

“My favourite batsman from Pakistan is Babar Azam, beautiful cover drive,” Lee remarked.

It should be noted that during the Pakistan Premier League (PSL) season eight Eliminator versus Islamabad United on Thursday in Lahore, Azam became the player to reach the milestone of 9,000 runs in T20 cricket the fastest.

Azam needed 35 runs to reach the milestone before the game, which he completed easily with to some fantastic shots. In the shortest format of the game, the right-hander went from 8,000 to 9,000 runs in just 27 innings.

Azam’s best form as a batsman and a skipper, according to former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, is yet ahead of him.

“I think Babar’s still got a little bit of development to come,” Ponting remarked after Babar was named ICC Cricketer of the Year for the first time and ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second year in a row.

“I really enjoy watching him play. I believe there is room for improvement; let us hope so.

“I’m confident that with a little more experience under his belt, like he has with his batting, he’ll find the perfect approach to lead and be a very successful captain of Pakistan.”

Nevertheless, Azam stated that Ponting’s comments boosted his confidence.

“You get confidence when a legendary player compliments you and you try to be better,” Babar said last month to ICC Digital.

“When such a big player makes favourable comments about you, it boosts your confidence because you know he’s talking well about you.

“Since these athletes have been through a comparable time, they understand my thinking. They have dealt with comparable situations and are familiar with the game.

“So, certainly, I try to take these compliments positively and to do my best.”

Moreover, Lee chose the renowned Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram over the outstanding Australian bowler Glenn McGrath.

With 414 Test and 502 One-Day International wickets, Akram is Pakistan’s most productive fast bowler.
