  • He was accused of not withdrawing police from Zaman Park
  • GB government has denied the charges against the police chief

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday dismissed Gilgit-Baltistan Inspector-General (IG) of Police Muhammad Saeed Wazir for reportedly deploying police from the residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Zaman Park, Lahore.

Muhammad Saeed Wazir has been removed from his post and Dar Ali Khan Khattak, a BPS-20 officer, has been appointed as the new IGP.  Establishment Division issued a notification for the removal of Wazir Saeed and asked him to report to the division.

Wazir Saeed was reportedly removed for not withdrawing policemen from Zaman Park as PTI workers clashed with police. The police eventually decided to retreat from the PTI’s chief residence amid directives from the Lahore High Court.

‘GB police deployed at Zaman Park’

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that Gilgit Baltistan police force was used against Punjab police during the confrontation over the possible arrest of Imran Khan.

The minister distanced the federal government from attempts to arrest Imran Khan and said state forces would be used in such circumstances. She said that Imran Khan was giving the impression that the government want to assassinate him but he was summoned by the court.

The federal minister claimed that police have no weapons and they are implementing the court orders. She claimed over 65 Rangers and police were injured in the clash with PTI workers.

GB govt dismisses charges

Gilgit-Baltistan Home Minister Shams Lone has dismissed Marriyum Aurangzeb’s allegations that the police force was used against Punjab Police outside Imran Khan’s residence.

Speaking to BOL News, the minister said Chief Minister GB has his own security force and was present in Zaman Park for a meeting with Imran Khan.  “We had our own security with us. We had a security threat. The Chief Minister has his own security,” he added.

He denied the impression that GB Police personnel were deployed at Zaman Pakistan. He said the federal government cannot directly summon police from other provinces or regions.

“Imran Khan is the party leader and were are with him till the last drop of blood” Shams Lone reaffirmed.
