Multan Sultans set Lahore Qalandars a target of 161 runs after winning the toss and opting to bat first on Wednesday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore during the Qualifier of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight.

Multan got off to a good start in the powerplay, scoring 46 runs without losing a wicket.

Haris Rauf cleaned up Usman Khan, who scored 29 runs in 28 balls, to give Lahore their first breakthrough in the eighth over. He and skipper Mohammad Rizwan added 53 runs for the first wicket.

Rilee Rossouw’s prized scalp was taken by Zaman Khan after he attempted to smack a slower ball over long on but was caught by Rauf. In 12 balls, he scored 13 runs.

Rashid Khan, meanwhile, dismissed Mohammad Rizwan after the latter missed a googly while attempting to play a leg-side heave. Multan’s captain scored 33 runs in 29 balls, including three fours.

Lahore’s good bowling, combined with Multan’s lack of intent, ensured that the middle-overs belonged to the fielding side.

However, Lahore missed some opportunities in the dying overs, allowing Kieron Pollard to shift the attack to the bowling side. The hard-hitting West Indian batter scored 57 runs in 34 balls, including six maximums and a four.

Tim David was unbeaten after 22 runs in 15 balls.

Rauf was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 3-34 in four overs. Meanwhile, Zaman and Rashid each took one wicket.

David Wiese bowled a low-scoring spell of 0-24 in four overs.

While the winner of today’s match will advance to the final, the losing team will face the winner of the first eliminator in the second eliminator.

Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi will face off in the first eliminator on Thursday, with the loser being eliminated from the competition. On Friday, the winner will face the loser of the Qualifier.
