Instead of her renowned haute couture, Pakistani fashion designer Maria Butt, often known as Maria B, is becoming known for her impulsive remarks and uncontrollable behaviour. The designer’s irregular business ventures annoy millions of other individuals in addition to endangering her brand.
The internet is furious with Maria after yet another skin-crawling, blood-curdling incident that she started, and Musaddiq Malek, an actor from the Bahawalpur community who thinks it’s important to protect cultural heritage and the value of ancestral properties, especially in a country like Pakistan with a rich cultural history, is no exception.
To give some background, Changez Khan, the grandson of Sahibzada Mohammad Daud Khan Abbasi, the last nawab of the Abbasi family from Bahawalpur, who once reigned as the princely state’s nawabs, criticised the brand for using their private family graveyard for photo shoots for the designer’s newest collection, “Roohi,” with images first appearing on Facebook on Thursday.
When Khan slammed the brand on his Instagram account accusing Maria B of an unlawful photoshoot where a model spun in her dress over his “Nana’s grave,” all hell broke loose.
The fashionista apologised for the “unfortunate incident” and claimed that “the shot was edited and published without any prior knowledge” in reaction to the criticism, but the internet isn’t buying Maria’s unbelievable narrative. The campaign’s images and videos were also removed from the Facebook page.
Malek, like many others, criticised the designer for disrespecting the community’s feelings as well as the burial ground’s cultural and historical significance.

Since then, the incident has ignited a discussion regarding the appropriateness of using private properties for commercial and the need to respect cultural and historical heritage. It emphasises how important it is for businesses and people to understand the cultural and historical significance of private properties and to treat them with respect.
The topic of discussion is a historic royal cemetery in Ahmadpur Sharqiya Tehsil in Bahawalpur where the heads of the Abbasi Nawab family have been buried. Only Abbasi family members and visitors who come to pray at the tombs are permitted in that region.
