Napoli forward Giovanni Simeone drafted into Argentina’s squad

The Argentine Football Association announced on Thursday that Napoli attacker Giovanni Simeone has been selected for Argentina’s team for friendlies against Panama and Curacao.

The 27-year-old, who has received five Albiceleste caps, was not included in manager Lionel Scaloni’s initial 35-man squad for the games in Argentina later this month.

The team is led by stalwart striker Lionel Messi and also features Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, forward Julian Alvarez of Manchester City, and midfielder Rodrigo De Paul of Atletico Madrid.

The Albiceleste will encounter Panama on March 23 in Buenos Aires and Curacao five days later in Santiago del Estero, according to a statement from the organisation.

Argentina will play in these games for the first time since defeating France in the World Cup final in Qatar last year.
