LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has postponed its election rally in Lahore being taken out on Wednesday as part of the election campaign.

This was announced by PTI senior leader Hammad Azhar while talking to media persons outside Zaman Park residence of Imran Khan on Wednesday.

Hammad said that fascism is at its peak in Pakistan as Punjab police cracked down on a peaceful election rally of the PTI.

The caretaker government, which is supposed to hold elections, has imposed Section 144 and banned its TV coverage.

“I urge all workers to remain calm and disperse peacefully and go back their homes,” the PTI leader said and appealed the activists to remain within the bounds of law and avoid clashes with police.

Hammad said, “We know this is a conspiracy to spread chaos and postpone elections, but we will not play your game.”

“Rana Sanaullah wants blood. Our workers and supporters must remain peaceful,” he maintained.

PTI activist dies

PTI activist Ali Bilal died from violence and brutality by Punjab Police as the party attempted to take out a rally in Lahore.

Ali Bilal was present at the rally near Mall Road when police resorted to baton-charge and fire tear gas shells at the party workers. Ali Bilal was severely injured in the police torture and succumbed to his injuries.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has strongly condemned the killing of party worker during the shelling and torture by Punjab Police.

In a tweet, the PTI chief said “unarmed, dedicated, and passionate” worker Ali Bilal was “murdered” by Punjab Police.

He condemned the “shameful” brutality on unarmed PTI workers coming to attend the election rally. “Pakistan is in the grip of murderous criminals,” he said.

He added that they will murder case against Inspector-General Punjab, CCPO Lahore and other responsible for the murder.

PTI workers arrested as Section 144 imposed

Earlier, PTI workers including women gathered for PTI’s election campaign rally have been arrested for violating Section 144 imposed in the city.

The Police have resorted to shell tear gas and also used water cannons to disperse the PTI workers.

Police also started baton charge on the workers gathered for the rally, after which the Mall Road underpass has turned into a battlefield.

The development surfaced as the Punjab government imposed Section 144 ahead of the PTI rally and the police tried to halt the PTI rally in view of the order.

Election Rally

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan kicked off the election campaign from Lahore today and the rally was supposed to start from Zaman Park.

PTI leader Musarrat Cheema while taking it to Twitter announced that the rally will start from Zaman Park at 1 pm and will reach Data Darbar via Ferozepur road.

She said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is afraid of elections which is why they have been attacking the judiciary and they sweat when they hear the name of the election.

Cheema also said that thousands of people will come out on the roads for the rally adding that today the whole of Pakistan will see that the people only want the supremacy of the Constitution.

On the other hand, Punjab Home Department banned rallies, processions and sit-ins in the city for next seven days. The ban was imposed today after a notification was issued.
