PSL 2023: Azam Khan, the flamboyant batter for Islamabad United, has stated that he wants to change how fans perceive his fitness and convert those who are critical of it into supporters.
With 242 runs in six innings this season in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Azam has been in outstanding form. Fans have begun discussing his potential inclusion in Pakistan’s side as a result of his aggressive batting style, which has attracted widespread attention.
However, the young batter is enjoying the present moment and wishes to remain in it.
“I’m happy with how my PSL is going; I think I’m in my best form, and you don’t see that very often,” he told media in an exclusive interview.
“It is not always easy to score fluently and big while batting in the middle order, and the most important thing in such a situation is to have a positive mindset,” he said.
Hard work and practice, according to the 24-year-old, are always important if one wants to improve his skills.
In response to a question, Azam stated that a century is just a personal milestone that brings its own satisfaction, but he is happy to be able to score winning runs for his team.
“I am happy and thankful for what I am able to score; there will be more opportunities to score in three figures, and I will try to do so,” Azam said when asked if he was disappointed that he did not score a century.
Azam scored 72 off 41 balls against Karachi Kings on Friday at Pindi Cricket Stadium, and while he was smashing Kings bowlers all over, the stadium echoed with chants of “Azam, Azam.”
“It obviously boosts your confidence when you hear people cheering and praising you,” he said.
“I remember how these chants were against me in the start but I continued with my process and today those critics are turned into my cheerleaders, it feels good and gives me a good message. “I know there are some fitness issues, but I will soon convert those who are critics of my fitness into fans,” Azam said.
In order for him to have a long career, the young man acknowledged that fitness is important.
When asked about Munro’s remark, Azam said that while it’s nice to be praised by top foreign cricketers, those who want to criticise will always find ways and reasons to do so.
“You are a winner when you do not give them such reasons,” he said.
The brash batter admitted that he had always wanted to represent Pakistan and that he had been disappointed when he hadn’t received the right run. Azam, on the other hand, stated that he tries to be content with what he has.
