Court summons Maryam Nawaz in anti-army, judiciary remarks case

  • Applicant said Maryam Nawaz was insulting the Pakistan Army
  • He said the court should give order to lodge FIR against her
  • The court has issued notices to deputy director FIA and SSP

SUKKUR: The District and Sessions Court Judge of Sukkur has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz on March 10 in the case pertaining to defamatory remarks against the Pakistan Army and judiciary, Bol News reported.

Bol News has obtained the court notice ordering Maryam Nawaz to appear in personal capacity before the court on March 10.

The court has issued notices to the deputy director Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sukkur and senior superintendent of police as well. The court issued the notice on plea of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Sukkur President Zaheer Babar.

The applicant said Maryam Nawaz was insulting the Pakistan Army and judiciary in public gatherings. He said the court should give order to lodge FIR against Maryam.

On February 28, former attorney general Anwar Mansoor Khan had written a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan asking him to take action against Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz for debasing senior judges in public.

Anwar Mansoor had said he wanted to apprise the chief justice about Maryam Nawaz’s speech in Sargodha on February 23. She had spoken against the honourable judges and Supreme Court under a campaign in the Sargodha public gathering and incited people.

“She levelled baseless allegations against the hourable judges and top court without any proof,” he had said adding that she subjected Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Akbar Naqvi to criticism in the suo moto reference regarding elections in provincial assemblies.
