Plea filed for release of 47 PTI leaders, workers in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leader Fayaz ul Hasan Chohan on Friday said a petition was filed for the release of 47 PTI leaders and workers imprisoned in Rawalpindi, Bol News reported.

“The writ petition was filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench by Advocate Supreme Court and senior PTI leader Babar Awan and Advocate Fahad Hasan Chohan, son of Fayazul Hasan Chohan,” Fayaz tweeted.

The LHC Rawalpindi Bench fixed the plea regarding freedom of PTI supporters for hearing. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz issued notices to the deputy commissioner Rawalpindi and jail superintendent. He also sought reply from Deputy Commissioner Waqar Cheema on March 7 (Tuesday).

Dr Babar Awan appeared on behalf of Wajid Bukhari, father of Zulfi Bukhari.

On March 1, following the decision announced by Supreme Court in regards to the delay in Punjab and KP polls, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had decided to postpone the Jail Bharo Tehreek.

PTI would be suspending the Jail Bharo movement and approach the court for the release of the leaders. It had decided to approach the court for the release of the captive leaders who were arrested.

The sources had said that a joint petition was being prepared for the release of imprisoned leaders in Punjab.

On the other hand, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf was also expected to address the public.
