BAHAWALPUR: A local court of Bahawalpur on Monday expressed indignation over keeping senior political leaders, Azam Swati and Muhammad Khan Madni, in death cell and directed the authorities concerned to get them out of the cell, Bol News reported.
The court has formed a division bench for hearing into the case of Azam Swati and Muhammad Madni. The court directed to submit a report after giving them a place according to their class.
Justice Anwar ul Haq Pannu asked if the leaders were suspect in under-trial case. “If someone wants to commit suicide then it is job of the government to stop him,” he said.
The court also sought record related to arrest of the leaders and sending them to far-flung jails.
Lawyer Saqib Tariq said keeping political leaders in the death cell was violation of the constitution and law.

Azam Swati said he was 74-year-old, a senior lawyer and citizen. “They are depriving me of my fundamental rights,” he said.
On February 24, the Lahore High Court(LHC) had ordered senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) leader Azam Swati to be produced in court and to form a medical board.
A hearing was held in the Bahawalpur Bench of the Lahore High Court on the request for the recovery of senior Tehreek-e-Insaf Senate leader Azam Swati.
Bahawalpur Bench had ordered to the production of Senator Azam Swati and Mohammad Khan Madani in court. The case was heard by Justice Anwar Haq Pannu.
Bahawalpur Bench of Lahore High Court had also ordered to form of a medical board for PTI leader Azam Swati and also ordered the Superintendent Jail to present both the leaders before the medical board.
Petitioner Adeel Aslam’s lawyer Saqib Tariq argued that Azam Swati went missing after his arrest. It is possible that he was subjected to torture.
The petitioner’s counsel pleaded that the Court should order Swati’s recovery and conduct a medical board.
