CAPE TOWN: South Africa shocked England by a score of six runs in the semifinal of the Women’s T20 World Cup. Tazmin Brits and Ayabonga Khaka provided the winning spark at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.
In South Africa’s 164 for four, the Brits scored 68 runs, but England was only able to score 158 for eight thanks to two outstanding catches.
In the same location on Sunday, South Africa will square off against Australia, the reigning champion and overwhelming favourite.
In the 18th over, medium-pace bowler Khaka claimed three wickets to put the target barely out of England’s reach.
“One of the best bowlers in the world, Khaka is exceptional. She demonstrated in class today, “said Sune Luus, the captain of South Africa.
Heather Knight, the captain of England, acknowledged that the cricket match had been “excellent.”
“We did well to get close to it. They bowled straight, which was difficult for us “Knight, whose side had won all four of their group games to advance to the semifinals, stated.
Following England’s quick start, fast bowler Shabnim Ismail made the first two breakthroughs before dismissing Knight in the last over to end their chances.
The finest batting performance by South Africa in the competition was started by Laura Wolvaardt and Brits.
They added 96 for the first wicket in 13.4 overs, building on their unbroken century opening stand in the final group game against Bangladesh.
The senior partner, Wolvaardt, made 53 off 44 balls before being caught at backward point by left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone. She did this by hitting five fours and a six.
The British then took control, hitting hard to get 68 points off of 55 balls. In the course of three deliveries from Sarah Glenn’s leg-spinner, she smashed six fours and two sixes.
Danni Wyatt and Sophia Dunkley of England quickly reached a 53-run opening partnership in just five overs before Dunkley was caught by Brits at midwicket for 28 runs by Ismail.
A spectacular catch by British in the identical spot two balls later allowed them to remove Alice Capsey for nothing.
Brits calmly held a hard hit from Nat Sciver-Brunt (40) at long-on after holding another diving catch to remove Wyatt (34) at backward square leg.
On Thursday, Australia overcame India by five runs in a thrilling semifinal match.
