Record of Toshakhana gifts to be put on website: additional attorney general

LAHORE: Additional Attorney General (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal on Thursday apprised the Lahore High Court (LHC) the record of Toshakhana gifts up to 2002 would be put on website online, Bol News reported.

During hearing of the case pertaining to receiving of gifts from the Toshakhana department, Munawar Duggal said the federal cabinet had approved making all the record of Toshakhana from 2002 till date public.

This he said in response to the high court’s order to present details about the officers who took gifts from the Toshakhana. He said record of Toshakhana gifts before 2002 was not available.

The head of Toshakhana department, the secretary cabinet, submitted all the available record to the court.

The additional attorney general requested the court not to make record of foreign delegations public.

The court said it would review that what record should be made public and what not. “There is no sacred cow in Pakistan,” the court said adding that it would review if the record of foreign delegations should be made public or not.

The LHC said purpose of all the exercise was to bring transparency on the matter in the future. The cabinet secretary said since 1963 the record of Toshakhana used to be with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The court has adjourned the hearing for fortnight.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are expected to be arrested in the case pertaining to Toshakhana gifts, Bol News reported on Thursday quoting sources as saying.

The sources said special raid squads of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had been formed in Islamabad and there was a shakeup in the FIA for dispatching the teams towards Lahore. They said women police officials would assist the raid for arrests.

The sources said information regarding presence of Imran Khan and his spouse in Lahore had been obtained. Advance preparation was being made to cope with the possible resistance upon arrest, they said.
