Graham Potter, the manager of Chelsea, has defended his team’s tactics and coaching philosophies despite the fact that his team currently sits in 10th place in the Premier League.
The Blues were defeated for the first time in five Premier League games on Saturday, falling to Southampton thanks to a free-kick from Saints captain James Ward-Prowse.
“No, I do not [lose belief or faith in his methods]. “I know it’s football, and things like this happen,” Potter said after the game.
“I am aware of my abilities. I know what I’ve done in my career, and I understand that when results don’t go your way, you’re open to criticism, which is understandable.
“We live in this world. There is a transition and factors [affecting our results], but it is also a motion, and the team is losing, so you can understand. I’m not stupid or naive; my job is to keep going and help the team get through this difficult time.
“You can only be yourself and give it your all. I understand; when you’re losing, there’s always something you can do or change. I’ve always been this way [calm on the sidelines], and it’s gotten me here. At the same time, I understand if people prefer something else.”

Potter added that it will take some time for the rookie players to get used to their new working conditions.
“We’ve invested in some young players, such as Enzo, [Mykhailo] Mudryk, and [Noni] Madueke, who haven’t played many games yet but are learning how to play in the Premier League,” Potter added.
“We are managing quite an unprecedented injury list, so you have to manage that also in the Premier League. All of this is correct, but when you lose, it is not what people want to hear.
“We have returned from Dortmund, and you try to prepare the game [against Southampton]. We’re all disappointed after Dortmund because of the chances we created and the opportunities we had; at this level, you need to score. Saturday was the same, but it is something we must continue to work on.”
