True journalism is like a mirror: Saudi Arabia energy minister

  • Minister said there was a margin for improvement.
  • “I daily talk to 40-50 journalists,” he said.
  • “The criticism should be used to bring enhancement.”

RIYADH: Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud on Monday said the true journalism was like a mirror, hence the criticism in media should not be misconstrued.

Addressing the special session in the Saudi Media Forum, Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud said there was always a margin for improvement.

“The criticism should be used to bring enhancement. If I was not working in the energy sector, then nobody would have recalled me,” he said.

The minister said decision of the ministry in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) meeting in October 2022 was picked apart. He said ministers of nine other countries were also present on the occasion, but the journalist subjected only Saudi Arabia to criticism.

“I ask where are the ones who subjected us to criticism today? I daily talk to 40-50 journalists,” he said.

Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud said the kingdom was working on empowering the women as well. He said just 388 women were working in the energy sector.

Global warming was a problem of the entire world, he said adding that the crown prince was personally looking into the matter.

The minister said the foundation day was not just a day but a pride.

The second Saudi Media Forum kicked off on Monday in Riyadh with an expected 1,500 media leaders, experts, analysts and specialists taking part.

The two-day forum will include discussions on a variety of subjects including visual, audio, print and digital. It will also review the media’s social, political, and economic role globally.

The first forum was held in Riyadh in 2019 under the umbrella of the Saudi Journalists Association. At that time, nearly 1,000 local and international participants took part in it.

This time, the forum has been taking place with a much broader spectrum and the number of participants has also increased.
