KARACHI: A large number of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers have registered themselves to court arrest and fill prisons as the party commences the ‘Jail Bahro’ movement.

The party held a rally in Karachi which reached the Insaf House where a camp has set been set up for party activists to register them for the movement. PTI Chairman Imran Khan has announced to commence the movement to fill jails from Feb 22.

Many PTI workers, including women, registered themselves to court arrest. Former MNAs and MPAs also registered themselves. The party has set up seven separate camps in different districts of Karachi. PTI Women’s Wing has also set up a separate camp.

PTI leaders Aftab Siddiqui, Khurram Sher Zaman, Haleem Adil Shaikh, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Raja Azhar, Jamal Siddiqui, and MPAs were present.

Speaking on the occasion, former PTI MNA Aftab Siddiqui said they have received an overwhelming response as party activists turned in large number to registered themselves.

He said more than 6300 party workers including women have registered for Jail Bharo movement. “I am grateful to the people of Karachi for registering themselves beyond our expectations. We are gathered here at the call of our leader,” he said.

He said that people are coming in droves for the Jail Bharo movement and demanding real freedom as the implementation of the Constitution and rule of law have disappeared from this country

He said cases are filed daily against the party senior leadership. He mentioned that cases were filed against Haleem Adil, Azam Swati, Shahbaz Gill and Fawad Chaudhry. “Our jihad is for the survival of law. We will fulfill their wish to fill the jail now,” he added.

He said the protest will be held on Friday against the rising inflation in the country. He thanked the party workers for their enthusiasm.

Former Sindh Governor Imran Ismail also hailed the determination of the party workers who volunteered themselves for the Jail Bahro movement.

“This is the spirit of the people. Put us in jails, we are ready,” he said, adding the government has broken the record of human rights violation.

He said they are united to get rid of the government. He hailed the people of Karachi for standing up for their rights.
