New anthem to release with King Charles’ coronation music

  • King Charles personally chose musical for the coronation event.
  • Coronation will feature a new anthem and a homage to Prince Philip.
  • The Spice Girls are in final negotiations to welcome the new monarch.

King Charles has personally chosen the musical programme for the coronation event, which will feature a new hymn and a homage to his late father, Prince Philip.

There will be 12 new works on the programme. The medley is intended to highlight a variety of genres and skills from around the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

According to the publication, musical theatre star Andrew Lloyd Webber will contribute an anthem, while Greek Orthodox music will be a heartfelt reference to his late father, who was born in Greece.

The Byzantine Chant Group will present a homage to the Duke of Edinburgh.

According to the site, Lord Lloyd-Webber, who has created great musicals such as Evita and The Phantom of the Opera, said he was “incredibly honoured” to be invited to write for the historic occasion.

“My anthem includes words slightly adapted from Psalm 98. I have scored it for the Westminster Abbey choir and organ, the ceremonial brass and orchestra,” he said. “I hope my anthem reflects this joyful occasion.”

The announcement comes after two celebrity musicians, Adele and Ed Sheeran, refused offers to perform during the coronation ceremony.

The Spice Girls, on the other hand, are apparently in final negotiations to reunite for a show to welcome the new monarch.
