Former RB Leipzig manager Domenico Tedesco has been named Belgium’s head coach.
The 37-year-old has agreed to a deal that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2024 European Championship.
He has taken over for Roberto Martinez, who left his position as manager of Belgium after six years following their loss to Qatar in the FIFA World Cup group stage.
“It is a great honour to be the new head coach of Belgium,” said Tedesco. “I’m really looking forward to the task and I’m extremely motivated. I had a very good feeling right from the first conversation.”
Tedesco, who has also led Schalke and RB Leipzig, now works with the Belgium side as it tries to bounce back from a dismal performance in Qatar.
The second-ranked team heading into the FIFA World Cup was the Red Devils, who placed third in the 2018 Euros. However, they were eliminated at the group stage after only winning one of their three games and scoring just one.
After the Red Devils were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup, Martinez, a former manager of Swansea, Wigan, and Everton, announced his resignation.
However, Martinez was hired by the 2016 European Champions to replace Fernando Santos as Portugal’s manager.
