IHC restrains police from transferring Sheikh Rashid to Karachi

  • Sheikh Rashid submits petition to IHC to stop his transfer to Karachi.
  • Rasheed claimed that he was referring to the remarks made by PTI Chairman.
  • He encouraged the court to refrain from hearing any other cases.

ISLAMABAD:  The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday rejected the plea to transfer Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Shiekh Rashid to Sindh after cases were registered against him in Karachi

The high court also rejected the police’s request to send the former interior minister on remand.  The court issued a notice regarding Rashid’s bail plea and stated that the petition would be heard tomorrow.

A case has been filed against Sheikh Rashid at Aabpara Police Station in Islamabad for allegedly making remarks against former president Asif Ali Zardari.

Another case has been lodged against him in Murree for threatening police personnel, while he has been named in two separate FIRs in Mochko police station in Karachi for passing comments against PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Sheikh Rashid had moved the IHC to bar the police from shifting him to Karachi from the federal capital. He also asked the court to nullify the cases registered against him in Karachi and Murree.

The petition stated that Sheikh Rashid only referred to claims made by PTI chief Imran Khan accusing Zardari of conspiring to murder him. It added that the complainant in the cases against him was not the victim.

The petition urged that cases should not be registered on the basis of political vendetta. The petitioner urged the court to nullify the cases filed against Rashid in Murree and Karachi or transfer them to Islamabad.

It further implored that the IHC should issue an order to stop Rashid’s transfer to Karachi until the final decision of the case. Rashid named 11 respondents, including the inspector generals of Islamabad, Sindh and Punjab, as well as the interior secretary in the petition.

It must be mentioned that a case was registered against Sheikh Rashid in Karachi for delivering “immoral” remarks against Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The case was registered at the Mochko police station by a PPP worker over the former minister’s comments against the PPP chairman. Sindh Police has formed a team and would leave on Saturday to take the AML leader into custody and bring him to Karachi.
