ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday released the schedule of by-elections on 31 seats of National Assembly (NA) vacated by the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) leaders.
Bol News reported that polling on the 31 NA seats would be held on March 19.
The nomination papers would be submitted between February 10 and 14. Inspection of these papers would be completed by February 18. Appeals on the nomination papers could be filed till February 22. The election tribunals would decide on the appeals till February 27. The nomination papers could be withdrawn by March 1, while symbols would be allotted to the candidates on March 2, the ECP said.

The constituencies where elections would be held are as follows: NA-2 Swat, NA-3 Swat, NA-5, 6 and 7 Lower Dir. NA-8 Malakand, NA-9 Buner, NA-16 Abbottabad, NA-19 Swabi, NA-20 Mardan, NA-28 Peshawar, NA-30 Peshawar, NA-34 Karak, NA-40 Bajaur, NA-42 Mehmand, NA-44 Khyber, NA-61 Rawalpindi, NA-70 Gujrat, NA-87 Hafizabad, NA-93 Khushab, NA-96 Mianwali, NA-107 Faisalabad, NA-109 Faisalabad, NA-135 Lahore, NA-150 Khanewal, NA-152 Khanewal, NA-158 Multan, NA-164 and 165 Vehari, NA-177 Rahim Yar Khan and NA-187 Layyah.
Meanwhile, Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday overruled an objection by the registrar office on a petition of 43 former lawmakers belonging to the PTI against the NA speaker`s decision to accept their resignations.
The office objected to the petition stating that a challenge was not maintainable against the NA speaker because this being a matter of internal proceedings.
However, Justice Karim rejected this objection and decided that the case shall be heard on merits on a date to be fixed by the office in the next week.
The lawmakers, including Riaz Fatyana, filed the petition through Senator Barrister Syed Ali Zafar.
