  • Babar Azam was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
  • 27-year-old scored 2598 runs at an average of 54.12.
  • Chairman of the PCB Najam Sethi made fun of Babar’s height.

Najam Sethi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management committee, and Babar Azam, the captain of the national team, engaged in a fascinating conversation after Sethi awarded the batter with the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year and the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year trophies at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Wednesday.

Babar received the honors last week for his outstanding performance in 2022.

In 44 games in 2022, he amassed 2598 runs at an average of 54.12, with eight hundreds and fifteen half-centuries.

“Four years ago, a friend asked me to look after a young boy named Babar Azam. That acquaintance advised me to keep in mind that he would make an excellent batter. I thank this friend both then and now “Sethi stated.

Sethi inquired about Babar’s feelings regarding his celebrity at this age and whether he is concerned about his physical appearance. Babar then responded: “I simply work hard and try to keep things simple. Cricket is easy for me because I keep my thoughts simple and focused.”

“I prepare myself for any situation. What you believe or desire to do does not always come to pass. When you’re feeling sad or out of shape, you need help “He went on to say.

The 74-year-old was proud to hand the prize to the best batter and expressed optimism that Babar would go on to win the accolades.

Sethi continued the conversation by making a humorous remark about Babar’s height.

“Is he taller than me, or am I growing shorter?” he wondered.

“My height is 5 feet 10 inches, and the shoes are very enormous,” Babar responded to the query.

After receiving numerous honours, Sethi also asked the 27-year-old if there was any pressure. The answer was yes, but it should be managed.
