Alex Hales of England decided against travelling to Bangladesh with his national team, according to The Telegraph, and will instead compete in the eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The series, which runs from March 1–14, will feature three T20s and as many ODIs between England and Bangladesh. However, the PSL, which is scheduled to take place from February 13 to March 19, would conflict with England’s tour.
Hales would “honor a lucrative £145,000 deal” while competing for two-time winners Islamabad United, claims the source.
“To leave a portion of the PSL and represent England in Bangladesh, Hales would lose a significant amount of money, with England match fees for players without national contracts — in the region of £5,000 and £2,500 for ODIs and T20Is — worth significantly less than franchise payments,” according to the report.
The T20 World Cup victory in Australia in November of last year marked the England opener’s first appearance in the national team since 2019. In England’s last four games, he scored 186 runs, including an unbeaten 86 in the 10-wicket semi-final triumph over India.

The PSL 8 opening ceremony will take place on February 13 in Multan, preparatory to the tournament opener between the 2021 winners Multan Sultans and the defending champions Lahore Qalandars; the closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
Lahore Qalandars will try to become the first team to win back-to-back championships, while Islamabad United will try to become the most successful team by winning the trophy three times.
Rawalpindi will host 11 games, while Karachi and Lahore will each host nine, and Multan will host five.
