- Saeed Ghani said ECP had received a letter from JI
- He said no candidate from the UCs filed petition
- He asked ECP not to make LG elections controversial
KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Saeed Ghani on Friday said the Jamaat e Islami (JI) had expressed reservation on results of six UCs in Karachi, Bol News reported.
Talking to media, Saeed Ghani said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had received a letter from the JI in this regard. The ECP had fixed the JI plea for hearing. He said no candidate from the 6 UCs had filed the petition, while the petition should be filed by the candidate only.
Whereas, he said, anybody could register a complaint regarding code of conduct within 15 days. He said the ECP could be challenged through a constitutional application only. “The complaints are registered with the election tribunal,” he maintained.

The PPP leader hoped that the ECP would deal with the matters as per his authority. He asked the ECP not to make the local government elections controversial under pressure of the JI.
He said the PPP would request to stop notification of the winning JI candidates.
“We did not oppose the JI application for recounting. Our plea will not be filed by irrelevant persons. Attempts are being made to unnecessarily make the local bodies elections controversial. Issues of the party that has faced injustice should be addressed. These were the only elections in which not a single bullet was fired,” he said.
Saeed Ghani said the ECP was bound to hold elections as per the law.
