Pakistan declines to attend the SCO Film Festival in India

  • Pakistan has chosen not to attend the (SCO) Film Festival in India.
  • After the rising tensions between the two nations, this choice was made.
  • Filmmakers and fans in Pakistan are disappointed by the decision.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional security alliance made up of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Pakistan, hosts the SCO Film Festival every year.

In light of “current tensions” between the two nations, Pakistan has chosen not to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival, which will be held in India from January 27 to 31.

On January 26, the Pakistani Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the decision:

“In view of the prevailing tensions between the two countries and the recent developments, it has been decided that Pakistan will not participate in the SCO Film Festival being held in India.”

After a string of rising tensions between the two nations, this choice was made.

The disputed territory of Kashmir, which has been a source of warfare for decades, has also been a source of contention between the two nations.

Filmmakers and fans in Pakistan, who consider the festival as a chance to highlight their nation’s rich cultural legacy, are disappointed by the decision.

The already tense relations between the two countries are expected to get worse as a result of Pakistan’s decision to skip the event. It serves as a reminder of the region’s lingering problems and conflicts as well as the importance of swiftly reaching a durable accord.
